Aberystwyth War Memorial

The Aberystwyth War memorial was built in 1922 to a design by Professor Rutelli of Rome, using stone from Ystrad Meurig Quarry.

It was unveiled on 14 September 1923. The ceremony was filmed by G. A. Cheetham and the black and white silent movie is held by the National Screen and Sound Archive of Wales. Movie clips can be viewed on the Gathering the Jewels website here.

This War Memorial is in our opinion Wales’ most spectacular, and is well worth a closer inspection if you are visiting Aberystwyth town.
