St Cynog’s Church, Penderyn
According to the Church in Wales : “A church dedicated to St. Cynog was built here in the 6th century AD. It was destroyed in 1290, but soon rebuilt. The tower, stoup and some ceiling bosses survive from this church. The rest dates from the rebuilding of 1895-6. The churchyard has good views out over the surrounding mountains up towards the Beacons. There are also some spectacular monuments just to the West of the tower while the whole of the large churchyard is managed to show of the wild flowers to the best.The church is open for worship with usually a service at 11.00 a.m. every Sunday except the 1st but please check to avoid disappointment.
Some registers have survived from the mid 18th centrury, but not a complete set. Those that have are in the National Library of Wales.
