Park Street Methodist Church, Blaenafon
Park Street Methodist Church in Blaenafon was built in 1885-86.It was used in November 2007 as part of the popular BBC Coal House series, depicting the lives of a group of families taken back to the south Wales coalfield of the 1920s.
The Coal House Hunger March Concert formed part of the finale for the series. Members of the cast were joined by Blaenavon Male Voice Choir, along with a few hundred viewers lucky enough to obtain a free ticket.
As described by one concert goer : “At the venue, there was a great turnout of folk both young and old in dress of yesteryear. The Blaenavon Male Voice Choir was joined by the men of Stack Square for a grand evening of hymn singing. The ‘congregation’ was invited to join in many numbers. The children of Stack Square delighted everyone with their items of song and verse. The ladies read the poems that they had written which revealed their thoughts whilst confined in the tiny miners’ cottages.”
