Aberdare Health Centre today

Aberdare Health Centre has been having some sort of a clear-out in the past few weeks.
Five of the resident doctors at the Health Centre retired on the same day in January 2007… it looks like the fresh faces are sprucing up their new offices!
Last week there was a nice metal filing cabinet destined for the dump. In today’s skip (see photo) there is an office desk in good condition.
Unfortunately, in 2007, there is no public service in Rhondda Cynon Taff to recycle unwanted furniture like this.
Rhondda Cynon Taff Council support & subsidise a ‘re-use’ charity called Valleys Furniture Recycling - trading as Too Good To Waste - but this organisation only re-use items in brand new condition. This relationship offers a convenient GREENWASH for the Local Council who want to appear as environmentally friendly.
Aberdare’s Chamber of Trade Secretary, Judith Toms, drew attention to the brazen greenwash surrounding Too Good to Waste in a letter to the Cynon Valley Leader newspaper in 2005. A letter-in-reply was printed from Cynon Valley Labour AM Christine Chapman’s assistant, Linda De Vet. It’s a pity the exchange of letters did not continue in the Cynon Valley Leader, as Judith Toms had the moral high ground in this case : she was drawing attention to the environmental myths fed to Rhondda Cynon Taff people via the Council.
The skips at Aberdare Health Centre serve to remind people that Rhondda Cynon Taff Council are unable to provide even a VERY BASIC furniture re-use or re-cycling service. Labour is failing the people and the environment of Wales’ second largest unitary authority.
